i am not able to think of an apt title for this yet, so will go ahead and write and if i still cant think of a title, will go ahead and post without one...

was watching KBC and there was question on which of these cricketers has won the "Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna" & the options - dhoni, dravid, ganguly, kumble! and if i said the award was won by one of these in 2007-08, who would your guess be?! If you have a contrarian streak, you'd say dhoni and you'd actually be right!! but then if you think seriously, what was his great achievement till then? He has now led the team to the ODI world cup, number 1 in test rankings etc. Right, he did lead India to the "World T20" win. But then was it a greater achievement than the contributions of dada, jumbo or RD to innumerable other Indian wins or performances in far sterner tests? Till 2007 atleast? i don't think so.

So to get to where i am going with this - some times it helps if there is a lot of noise or hype around things you do. The quieter lot that go about things in an understated way tend to lose out or worse, taken for granted. This works even in the corporate world, infact i guess that's where it is a lot more common. Is it then worth for the low maintenance people to continue taking things on the chin and keep going or should it end somewhere, sometime? I for one am still looking for the right answer.

P.S: i don't grudge dhoni his khel ratna though. all that he has achieved is an incredible story in itself! and all credit to him for that!
